new duncan problem
I just bought a 2 headed duncan frag the other day. The same day I got it, it started to open up that evening. When I awoke it was fully retracted. I kept the halide off that side of the tank for the day and this evening when I got home from work, it was still retracted.
I have a pair of camel shrimp that hang out nearby where the frag is. I read that camels nip at anemones and leathers. Could the shrimp also be nipping at the duncan, or is it possible it is still adjusting to my tank? |

Rhynchocinetes spp.
(camel shrimp) prey on corals of various types.

Hmmm. I knew they were to be kept with caution, but they never moved from the rock they hang out under, at all.
Now I wonder how I can lure them into a trap to get them out of my tank. |

Put some krill in the trap at night. Watch them and net out the trap.

Also my duncan fully retracts at night when the lights are out and wont open up even close to full until the halides are on. Try turning the lights on and see if that helps.

My duncans were retracted for a couple days. Then they started coming out and are very healthy and full. They still retract at strange times.

Thanks for the reassurance on them. =)
I still have to work on getting those camel shrimp out as I see them as a ticking timebomb with all the zoa frags i've been adding lately. The male is going to be a pain as he sits under a rock at the bottom of my tank and i've never seen him move. Even at night with a red flashlight, he's still in his same spot. The female wanders, so I think she'll be easy. |
