Which snails are best?
I need to redo my clean up crew and my glass is always dirty. I use a magfloat but that doesn't get into the corners or right at the edges of the tank. I know nassarius snails are best for sand, but what about everything else. So..
Which snails are best for glass? Which are best for rocks? Whats best all around? |

Banded (red stripe shell with black foot) trochus. An efficient grazer with a good long term survival rate. They usually dont knock things around like turbos do.

Are they the best for glass or overall? I really just need glass cleaners.

Zebra trochus snails are the best I've had in my tank. They do a good job on the live rock as well as the glass.

I really like ceriths. They seem to be the best all purpose snail. Although a good mix is probably the best idea. Hit all the little niches.

I agree with greenmonkey - a diverse population will do wonders. Check with these guys to build crew to fit your tank and situation. John will take care of you.

I thought about a mix, but I only really need the glass cleaned. I can get nassarius for my sand bed, and my rocks get throughly cleaned by my tangs believe it or not. Just need something on the edges of the glass, where the mag float doesn't get.

You might want to get in there with some elbow grease and a scraper. They aren't going to get all of it. If your refering to the algae that doesn't come off with the magfloat, you might be due for some detailing. Just my 2 cents.

I know, there is some that won't come off with the magfloat, I use a long handle razor blade for that. But the stuff that is around the edges, close to the silicone, I don't want to go near. That is where I am hoping the snails come in!
