Question Bubbleking 180 mini - need help here

I bought a Bubble king 180 mini and had to take it apart as that it had stopped due to calcium build up. When I took it apart, beside the calcium I noticed that the magnet was stuck on the centre shaft. Is this magnet supposed to grip on to the shaft or is supposed to be free spinning?
