Coral naturally attaches to rock?

Found out that using super glue gel was a giant PITA to attach my torch coral to the rock. So I, instead, stuffed the coral into a deep hole.

Is it true that the coral will eventually attach permanently to the rock? LFS told me about this and well I dont believe them.

I dont think LPS can do this because of the skeleton, but i am not 100% certain

Depends on the coral. Leathers, mushrooms, zoanthids, and lots of other soft corals will attach on their own within days to weeks.

LPS corals will attach to rocks on their own... i.e. acans, micromussa, favia, etc. Torch - not going to happen. For these, use a two part epoxy...you will get much better results.

damn... dont want to use any more glue

I hated it when the dried cyanoacrylate was in my tank water. It just wont stick! And i dont want to have to pay for those aquarium epoxy.

What's the recommended all purpose epoxy that is reef safe?

I wouldn't say never gonna attach but it will take time. I have a FS that was just shoved into a hole and had grew to a point that I wanted to frag it. I went to remove it from the tank and it wouldn't move. Took some tweezers to pry it out and it broke, right were I wanted it to thank God. Turns out that it attached by itself, but like I said it too a while and mine wasn't planed.

My hammer has attached itself to the rock I wedged it into. Only took 4 months. Was not what I had intended but works for me!

I had a similar issue with attaching frogspawn. I quickly dried off the base of it as well as I could then wrapped a wad of marine epoxy around the base, then stuck it in a hole in the rock. It's not going anywhere...

two part epoxy from you lfs is easy, and works great,, i have never tried the home depot brand, but will now,, i dont think lps will "attach" to rock,, but i hav ehad some kind of grow into the shape, making it hard to get out, but,, the if you just use a small amount of epoxy, you can usually remove it easily as well, in case you have to move it later due to light or flow,,

Here's a pick of my hammer coral attached to the rocks. It's attached in a large area above the hard skeleton, which is no longer visible.

LPS do attach to rock

I dunno, i dont buy it. The pic just looks like a hammer stalk poked in a rock. I had a hammer for 2 years, branching type and never once attached even though it put out multiple heads.
I have a branching candycane coral now for four years, it started with 3 heads, now its over 20, and still never attached itself to a rock.
I say if you expect your lps to attach to a rock you have a very long wait ahead of you
