cloudy water
I have been mixing salt water for a few days now. I am holding some of the water in 2 - 35 gallon aquariums with no sand or rock, just the water. The water isn't clear. Not that it is impossible to see through, just a little foggy. Why is that? Will running carbon make it clear?

What temperature is the water? I know for me if the water is cold (in the 60°s) that the water will be a little cloudy. Once it warms up, it goes away. I don't think everything dissolves as it should when cold.

Hi. I think that you have not gotten a complete mixture of the salt in the water. Keep a power head going and it should finish disolving. That would be my guess.

keep your powerheads on. Make sure the temperature is warmer. (80 or so). The heat helps the salt dissolve quicker. Other wise it just looks like you poured milk in the tank

I pre mixed it all in a brute trash can for 24 hours with a heater an power head. the water in the aquariums are circulated and heated to 80 degrees. Salinity is 35ppt checked with a refractometer.

Sometimes you get a little calcium precipitation when the water is mixed. Once in the tank it usually clears as the carbon dioxide in the tank water will redissolve colloidal carbonates in a couple of hours.
