Light too high?
Hey all,
Just need some assurances here... I have a 30G hex tank with a 250W XM 20K. I recently had a canopy built, and attached the light with this parabolic reflector from www.hellolights.com. I measured from bulb to water, and I'm at 14 inches. The light seems dimmer than before (of course I had the old fixture about 8" from the water). My plan is to have SPS, zoas, xenia, mushrooms and an anemone. Just want your thoughts on the height before I modify my canopy more to lower the light. Thanks! |

I have 400w lights and they are about 10" from the water. I do have a large fan for air circulation to keep the water from warming too much. But it seems that you could have your lights a few inches closer to the surface.

I'm with the above, 10" sounds about right.
How old is the XM bulb?

bought the bulb about 2 months ago... I think I may end up supplementing with some actinic and go with a 10K bulb to squeeze out some PAR...
