Outer Orbit modifications

Here's the deal: I have a 30x24x24 tank with a 30" 250 mh Sunpod on it. It's great but I would like some supplemental lighting. I have my eye on the Outer Orbit HQI/T-5 but they only come in 24" and 36" versions.

My initial idea is to buy the 24" and see if Current could sell me the "shell" from a 36" that I could cut down. I'm waiting to hear back from them now.

Another thought was to just buy the 36" unit and cut it down. The issue here is the 39w t-5's on the 36" unit versus the 24w t-5's on the 24" unit. Does anyone know if they use (or could use) the same ballast? Then I would just need smaller bulbs.

Thanks
