To the OP, I would go with just one firefish. And skip the coral banded shrimp -- they are known to go after other shrimps ( and fish ), they are worse about it in smaller tanks.

Piz,
I was kidding. But seriously, try to do a little more research before embarking on such a small tank for fish only. Know your nitrogen cycle well and how ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are biologically filtered. An easy starter would be 60G tank (48" long) with overflow box to a 20G sump with bioballs (you find these acrylic sump in most fishstore) for a fish only with live rock (FOWLR). At least the bioballs will take out most of nitrite and ammonia. Nitrate, just do a water change on a regular basis. Todd, I read the whole user agreement and I did not break any of it. Would you please point out the specific clause that I have violated? Verbatimly.

To Johnny: I think maybe he was driving at your post which makes you out to be some sort of jerk that shoots down newbies without offering any help whatsoever. Who knows?
To Pizaz: Be sure to start small in terms of your bioload and cleanup capability. If there isn't a lot of food for your shrimp to eat, they'll die (seems simple, right? ). Also you'll need to let your bacterial biomass grow to accommodate additional livestock as you grow, so it's best not to add it all at once.

Todd, that is so subjective. If the help I offered is any consolation that I even care to come back to respond, then I am sure the moderators will deem in the context of this thread, I was being friendly sacrastic.
Owen, he is too quick to judge, lest he be judged himself. I think Jesus said that, didn't he? Or he who does not sin, cast the first stone? Moving past the point, I would like to share with Pizaz what are possible for a small tank without fancy and expensive equipments. But realize he has over 20+ exp. Here it is: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1506957 I also realize a lot of new comers like to keep fish rather than corals. I get a small chuckle when friends come over to see my tank and said, where are the fish? You'll see a smirk on my face. Aquabucket is able to control himself and keep extreme limited swimming livestock -- key to success for small tanks.

And you also edited your second post. So you didn't start off all that helpful.

Don't worry, all it said was a snarky "You will succeed," and then his asking for you to quote what part of the UA he violated.
I'm not sure you were in violation of the UA, Johnny, but you were for sure a jerk (since this is RC and I'd like to keep my account, I'll not use stronger language). Now, however, you are in violation of the UA, when you posted (and I quote): 12/09/2008 09:58 PM Owen, he is too quick to judge, lest he be judged himself. I think Jesus said that, didn't he? Or he who does not sin, cast the first stone? That violates section 1 of the UA: "1.POSTING: You agree not to post, transmit or link to any unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind, including, but not limited to, any material which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, violate the rights of others, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national or international law. This includes posting matter of a political or religious nature (emphasis mine)." Besides that, it's a pointless argument. You failed to offer any constructive comments to the poster's specific question about stocking a new tank, instead opting to cut him down. Pizaz, don't worry about people like that -- you'll encounter plenty of them in this hobby. Generally speaking, they may know a lot about reefing, but simply don't get how to be a good mentor or how to pass their knowledge on without puffing up their own egos.

having kept a 29 for some years, I would agree with the clowns and the firefish provided you can keep it in the tank. I've had great success as well with Gramma loreto - beautiful fish and only mildly aggressive toward tankmates that approach it's cave. However, I would also sound the note of caution and need of patience. Make liberal use of waterkeepers link at the top of the forum for new to the hobby. save you lots of $$$ and heartache. Remember, "The ox is slow, but the earth is patient."
keep coming back with your questions
