First Tank Setup

Just thought I would share with everyone my 90 gallon tank setup. These pictures are from the second night the tank was running and the pictures are from my I-phone so they are kind of bad. All the levels seem to be good though but my temperature is a little high with the Blueline Velocity T3 hovering around 80degrees or slightly lower so I'm not so happy about that. I either need to get a chiller or I need to switch the pump out. Still have not put the canopy on either because I haven't had a chance to drill the board that goes across the canopy to suspend the light fixture.

I have moved some of the rocks since then but really only the ones on the sand floor, other than that everyone really likes the little caverns. I have added a 2 large cleaner shrimp, sixline wrasse and spotted mandarin to go along with the maroon clown, blue tang and flame angel.

The values of the tank so far are.
Kh value 8.0
Alk value 2.86
Ca value 410
Magnesium value 1140
Salinity 1.024

Hope you enjoy.

Well this is my first tank and it has been setup for 2 days but it's been running now where it's at for a little over a week. I should mention I guess it was setup at another persons home and was moved. Transferred the sand bed, tank water, live rock and corals and fish. I did use a bottle of Bio-Spira to make sure there weren't any spikes though, but I probably didn't need it since the move only took a couple of hours and nothing died.

The guy at the LFS suggested dosing with iodine so I bought Kent Marine Iodide since it doesn't break down through the UV steralizer but since I don't have the UV running yet I have bunch of chemicals from the previous owner not sure if I should use all of them or any of them but I'm going to use up the Kent Marine Tech - I first.

Here is a list of chemicals that I got and all of them are pretty much full for the most part.

Kent Marine Coral - Vite, Kent Marine Pro Clear, Kent Marine Essential Elements, Kent Marine Concentrated Liquid Calcium, Kent Marine Ammonia Detox,Kent Marine Stronium & Molybdenum, Kent Marine Coral Accel, Kent Marine Iodide,Kent Marine Tech - I, Kent Marine ChromaPlex, Kent Marine Garlic Xtreme, Kent Marine Zoecon, Kent Marine Supperbuffer-dKH, Kent Marine Nitrate Sponge, Kent Marine Reef Carbon, E.S.V. Granular Activated Carbon, Seachem Reef Buffer, Seachem Reef advantage calcium, Kordon AmQuel +

regardless of what he says and others some on here, i suggest you dont dose anything you cant test for, iodine is essential but in such small percentages that it can be dangerous if overdosed, be very careful, if your not sure ask waterkeeper, or pop over to the chem forum and ask randy, or boomer, im pretty sure, very sure you dont want to consider iodine yet certainely, just be careful, very careful with dosing

I agree with Michael, don't dose anything you can't test for.

IMO 80 degrees is a perfectly acceptable temp.

I would also suggest getting test kits for Nitrate, Nitrite and ammonia as well.

Oh, and FWIW.
I try and shoot for these numbers:

Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0
PO4 0
Alk 9-10
Mg 1350
Ca 450

I am by no means suggesting these are the best numbers, just what I shoot for.

Good luck!

Looks like a really good setup. The only thing that would make it better was a clean front pane of glass. Need to wipe that sucker down!

And I'll reiterate what has been said, don't bother adding most of those chemicals to the tank, and only had stuff that you have data to support.

Thanks for the info.

Would you recommend against dosing vitamin c supplements?

Nice tank. I like the caves you setup on each end.

considering you have 1 months experience do not dose vitimin c, id suggest talking to the chem forum about these things on your mind, or give waterkeeper a pm so you can get some attention, do not dose anything without proper advice, and again the first bit of advice is if you dont test for it then dont dose it
