New Cone Skimmer from Singapore < 300.00
Someone else is about to bring a another cone skimmer to market ,
I just thought I'd share this from glassbox- designs.com .It is amazing how they can really imitate and get to market so fast . We all saw it coming . But in the end it's still not the real deal . So how it performs due to variations ? Who knows ? The only patent I saw seemed to be filed by KZ ? in 2007 and was approved this year . [IMG][/IMG] This is an article from glassbox -designs.com . A new conical skimmer from Singapore has popped up in the Asian markets. Shown first is the smallest model, powered by an Aquabee 2000/1 NW. The foot print is only 7.5″ x 7.5″ with a total height of 20″. This would hit the sub 100g range nicely. Best of all the price is only $310 USD. Here is the larger Eheim 1260 powered model with a footprint of 9.5″ x 9.5″ and a height of 24″. This model is also available with an AquaBee 5000. Price with Eheim: $450. I am told there is one model that is even larger– a 26″ cone powered by an Askoll pump. I am not a fan of knock offs, but the compact design of these skimmers is very attractive… So is the price. There are no welds to be seen on the body, meaning a few more cone molds are floating around. It won’t be long until even more make their way to the U.S. What is interesting here is the body is not a full cone. The KZ patent may present some problems or at least scare off importers. In the meantime a few more cone designs by other manufacturers are in the works. Expect to see some of them after new years… Last edited by mordibv; 12/21/2008 at 09:01 AM. |

A reasonably priced, well made, cone skimmer with an Aquabee 2000/1 needle-wheel or an Eheim 1260 NW....at a price not bordering on $1000? Rather, sub $400!!!
I usually don't like knock-offs, but in the case of skimmers, NONE of the elite/expensive companies were the original and the certainly use someone else's pump and a few features found on earlier models (needle wheel, becket, venturi, down-draft, etc.) so I'd have to say even a Bubble King, or ATB is a "knock-off" of some sort or another. I'd also have to say we all like knock-offs that are very pricey (reference my Bubble King comment above), for some reason it is more palatable, BUT......some of these cheaper ones are using really nice pumps, quality acrylic, and fine craftsmanship. So, the question is, are more inexpensive knock-offs distasteful because they don't work, they break, have cheap pumps, or solely because of the price? |

Yep so by the time it gets here with shipping . OUCH . The Pioneer is supposed to be the 300 for the small under 100 gallons and 450 dollar range skimmer with the ehiem pump . Some Malaysia site with a store call GV Marine Center is going to be carrying it . |

Looks like a dead ko of a bk mini to me. I guess there are going to be more players in this thing soon. I wonder who is gonna slap their label on these and bring them to the states.

Felt like I was reading a old newspaper LOL Where did you get your skimmer from? I know that there will be a US importer from Canada but I believe that they are not to market yet. The confusing part of these skimmers is trying to figure out the sizing its hard to go my the manufactors sizing I do not want to overskim again. My replacement pump will be 200 bucks so I am thinking about getting a different skimmer and selling the body.

@ Moondoggy Yep . Aquarium Speciality hooked me up .It was the last one he had . He only got 3 in .I talked to Aqua Digital (NA distributor) for a friend who wants one. They advised me to tell a buddy to wait until the SKIMZ online site launches hopefully at the end of the month. That way you get full support and the product is shipped @ US domestic rates . Yeah the sizing is way weird . I am putting this on a 70 cube lol . U can peruse the Canada reefers forum and a few stores sell the lower end models . 960 lph in a 21.5 inch tall cone rocks . Uses a Eden pump out of Italy . I thought it was a Sicce but Scott @ As gave me the 411 on the pump. These pumps are a good Laguna alternative . WM has a new series coming out just like the SKIMZ but using WM bubble plate parts . It was supposed to be on the market already . Unsure what the hold up is with them . So those are the options for now . This is the Kone SK 201 model that is on it's way to me now HTH @USC- fan ... I doubt the cone craze is going by by anytime soon . They are playing with double bubble plates now on cones only .
