If your going to go to Detroit, there is a great place in Toledo, tropical reef, that has great live rock, already cured. 6.99/lb Put it in a container of water and take it home with little or no cycle. Toledo is just a little south of Detroit.

you can try premium aquatics or JL aquatics. I haven't checked the prices but it should probably be cheaper than 6.99/lb. but i dont how the prices will change with shipping added on.

Not sure I'd pay to have live rock shipped if you can get a reasonable price locally, but J&L Aquatics is a Canadian site that you can order from online. Their product and service is excellent.

Then I would get that. Most shops local to me sell cured for over 10.99/lb so I thought 6.99/lb was a good deal. That and even though they say theirs is cured it isn't covered in coraline alage like this stuff is.

well one place here sells it for about $6.99 the other place is $5.48.

The 6.99 is cured and the 5.48 is Walt Smith not cured.

don't think you are going to find a better deal here in canada unless you pick it up off a local reefer. 5-$7 isn't bad for cured rock

You can't bring rock across the border yourself. You need a CITES permit. It's not worth the risk or the hassle, and the permits aren't cheap.

J&L Aquatics sells nice rock.

welcome Hamiltonian
you can get super rock deals from finding someone that is selling there rock
look on these sites--they are local
www.reefescape.ca

www.aquariumpros.ca

For outstanding corals visit Ryans where's the reef in Mississauga
or Canadian fish breeders in Scarborough or Alternate Aquariums in Burlington(they get a shipment in every Friday)

The other alternative is to go in with a couple of guys and have live stock shipped from BC--it is mailed directly to Mount Hope airport and the shipping is 40 bucks(split a few ways it is a great deal)

Good point and worth mentioning again
You can bring coral back but you have to detach it from the rock its own
Inverts, fish, macro algae all okay----but not live rock

I can never figure this one out either---ahh Canadian customs

I had luck from RiverWonders for tonga fusion. The live rock here isnt nothing to talk about, and at $10/lb. I had to find something else. At the end of all the fees it worked out to approx $4.50/lb. Heres a few pics, I was very impressed;

It's not so much that it has to be detached, it has to be *obviously* propagated in captivity. This usually means a very non-natural base for the coral frag, like a piece of ceramic tile. As I said, it's not worth it -- the customs person will not really care that "this particular Acropora coral is propagated in captivity". They will see the name "Acropora sp." on the list under "Order Scleractinia" and deny you entry with it, confiscate it, and possibly take other things too.

Depends on where it's collected from. In many areas of the world, collection off of a reef is banned. You're only allowed storm rubble, or aquacultured stuff.
