Check your temp!
Wow, I can't believe this. On my 260 I have been using a Ranco controller in sump with a Pinpoint wireless temp gauge upstairs to keep an eye on it - temps always within one degree of each other. In my office I've got a 14 gal nano and decided to upgrade the heater and add a controller to keep up the heat on cold nights when the office heat is turned down. When I added the controller, it read 86 degrees! I couldn't believe it. The cheap Coralife digital thermometer was off by 8 whole degrees! This summer the tank must have hit at least 90 on some of the days. I've assumed it may be off a little as cheap ones can be, but that was just awful. It could also be why I had a tough time with my snails dying shortly after acclimation. I'm never going to run a cheapie again or another thermometer without checking against another...
