Should I get a skimmer for a 29g cube?
I'm a newbie. So sorry if this is a stupid question. My LFS said I don't need a skimmer. So now I ask u guys. Do I need a skimmer for a 28g cube or is it pointless?

Yes, you do. Some people do have succesful tank without them but many reefers will always recommend having one. Me being one of those reefers. It's a little strange that your LFS say you don't need one as I would have bet they'd try selling you the most expensive one.

Currently I have a 30 gallon tank with a octopus skimmer running along with it. It takes out alot of that un-needed material. Don't ever listen to your local LFS, I learned that lesson. If you are ever interested in getting something whether it be equipment or livestock this is the place to ask.
So to answer your question I will say yes...I would invest in a good one..dont go corallife though.

What's a good skimmer that will fit a 29g bio-cube?

You can buy skimmers specifically made for the Bio-Cube, just go to any LFS that stocks the bio-cube and ask them, they should have 'em in stock.

No, you don't need one if you do a weekly 10% water change. I run a 29 bio cube, and I also had (just sold) a 12 gal, and a JBJ 24 that ran without skimmers. Nitrates stay at 0 with weekly water changes. My 34 gallon Red Sea Max has a skimmer that came with it so that tank is skimmed, but honestly it doesn't seem to make that big of a difference because it doesn't pull much out. My 210 is skimmed, but it has a very large bio-load.

If this is a biocube then you are limited to the skimmers you can put in the back of the tank. I have the biocube 29 and I also have the biocube skimmer. It works but I wouldn't say it is great. If you choose this one you will need to change the airstone every couple months for it to continue to work.
On a tank this small you could go without a skimmer but you would need to do water changes more often. Good luck.

i agree with what kar said, i think a skimmer is necassary, but you could get by without 1, personally i would never run a reef tank without a skimmer
