how to plant mangroves?

the ones i bought aren't tall enough to stick out of the tank yet. Can they be completely submerged for the time being?

for me I took a piece of styrofoam (spelling) and poked a hole in so I could float the mangroves until they started a good size root base and were tall enough.

worked out great for me

The best way to grow mangroves is to attach them to a stake with that green rubber like plant tie stuff. I take a 1" PVC pipe and cut it in half making it into a U shape. I then attach the mangrove to the outside of the u and tie it with that green gardeners tie up stuff. Make sure that the leaves are out of the water and spray the leaves with RO water frequently to remove salt from the leaves.

I received some mangroves in seed form (looked like huge lima beans). I did the floating foam bit until they could be placed in egg crate.

Beginning till now...

that is so cool. I wonder if mangroves would do well in an HOB fuge?

Sure. Light is the key. Water or substrate is good too.

Got a skylight above the HOB, what kind of light do they need? Also have several inches of sand at the bottom of the fuge. Woudl a mangrove play nice with caulerpa?
