I've kept a flame in my soft coral tank with no problems.
But once in a while you hear about one that decides it likes softy's.
I'd say it's a 50/50 gamble.

I have a flame and he nips just about everything in the tank. He especially likes jacking with the Clams. I don't know that he's really hurting anything other then stressing the Clams. I don't think I would add him to a Reef if I had it to do over.

I have one and all he ever does is nip at the algae. I have never seem him nip at any of my zoos or other softies. They all seem to be doing fine.

I have one now and its great, great color, also a coral beauty is another good small angle fish. Have both of these in my reef tank. Quite a few of my reef buddies have them in their tanks and do just fine...

have a capture plan if you decided to risk it. As others have posted it's a crap shoot. I cannot in good conscience ever recommend Centropyge sp. for a reef tank on that basis. The coral beauty mentioned above is the species that killed my open brain by stressing it to the point it would not expand and eat.

I've had two flames (lost the first when I moved) and neither one picked on any of my corals (Frogspawn, acro's, xenia, kenya tree, shrooms, zoas, or others). Just remember that you may have to catch him.

I have a flame angel also...decided to have 2 tasty clam snacks. They are beautiful fish but are risky if you ever decide to put in lps, clams, or sps.
Mine has never bothered mushrooms or zoos or any softies for that matter. Remember that you want to think what you are going to put into the tank not just what's in there now.

I have a flame in my tank with zoas, softies,& rics, no problems so far but it really is a risk. I knew when I bought mine the possibility existed & like I said so far so good but I still watch closely....
