Moving Riccordia
I have a Riccorida that is being shaded by a large coral atatched to the same live rovk above it. Its very small seeing it doesn't open anymore and how do i go about removing it off this live rovk. Can't move live rock so small it may float away. do it during water change suck it up same time as i remove it. Please explain step by stem how to remove rand reatach .
Thanks Ronny |

You won't get the Ric of the rock without mutilating it. Best bet is to chip off part of the rock it's attached to.

if you try to cut it off the rock, you will likely kill it. why is the chipping suggestion so difficult, LR is often very easy to break as it is so porous.

Heres a pic of the live rock and coral in ? If you look at the three mushrooms in lower botton right of pic. Look at the mushroom at the left Look directly obove it at the coral the golden one in middle of live rock just to the left of middle you see a little whie spot .Thats the closed Riccordia. BestI can do with the pic. Thats the spot I want to remove . By the way what is the gold coral it was given to me? By the way the live rock piece is super glued . Ronny |

i'm having a hard time figuring out which you are referring too.
at the very top you have what look like Xenia, below that you have small blue shrooms, an orange ric and green zoas then some green striped shrooms and some more blue shrooms. Which is it closest too? |

2 Suggestions:
1) Learn how to type so it isnt a struggle to read your posts. 2) Explain a little better on where the picture is the coral you are referring to. Nobody wants to play "Wheres Ric" |

Take it easy, ReefFreek917. Bad grammar can be a bit annoying, but everyone makes typos. When I see "live rovk" it's pretty easy to tell the person was trying to say "live rock". C and V are close enough on the keyboard to figure it out. In addition, most people know what a Ricordea is. If you don't know what something is, do a Google search before phrasing your reply in such a way that tries to insult the OP for not pointing it out to you. It doesn't make you look smarter.
Ronny, that ricordea looks quite happy and healthy right where it is so there's no need to move it if you are concerned about it's well being.

The ricordia the big one is not the one I'm talking about you realy can't see it . It's right under the smaller zenia by the heater on the narrow piece of live rock under the smaller zenia .

It was half the size if the ricordia in pic before the zenia got bigger. Just wanted to move it so it got more light so it would look like the large one here.

I can't really figure out where the ricordea you are asking about is from the picture, but the other one you have is under a bit of an overhang and seems to be doing fine, so my first guess would be it's not really a lighting issue. I've seen varying opinions about how aggressive xenia is (a far as chemicals, not growth). Do you have a powerhead blowing across the xenia to where the ricordea is?

Boy I with I could point to where it is. look under the small zenia see the snail or crab right under the golden polyps i guese thats what there called just left of the crab or snail the whole zenia and piece of live rock it's atatched to looks loke a toad stool . The ricordia you can't see is in middle of the shaft which is the live rock . I can't explain it any better.

Ronny, if you don't mind, pm me your email. I edited the pic to circle what you are talking about, but photobucket has some sort of script running that keeps shutting down my browser every time I open it. I can send you the picture to upload so people can see what you are talking about. Hopefully I got it right.
I can see now why you need to move the ric, but I don't have any great ideas aside from either removing some of the xenia or chiseling the rock starting at the top so you snag some of the xenia with the ric. Of course, that would most likely completely freak out everything in your tank since you can't remove the rock.

while i still can't see exactly what you are talking about, if you are worried about the xenia encroaching (which i would be) and actually either way; frag out the xenia, from your quick description of its history in your tank, it appears to have gone 'weed' on you which is quite common.
make some frags out of it, take them into your LFS for store credit or just kill it back. |
