AquaC Remora Hang On Skimmer...Whats the pump for?

Not sure I understand how this works guys. It doesnt just suck up water like a normal filter? Whats the pumps use?

The pump takes water from your aquarium and injects it into the skimmer. When the spray strikes the water inside the skimmer, it generates foam.
