magnum 350

was curious if anyone uses this filter
i have mine beside my sump and have carbon in it
i am pulling the water from my sump and it exits from the canister filter to my filter sock..
for some reason the canister filter only stays 3/4 full of water.. i tried filling it to the brim the best i could but it slowly over a period of time goes back to 3/4" full

i know that this filter is designed to be underneath the aquarium and may use gravity as part of the design...

just trying to make sure this canister is not suppose to be totally full..

yes its supposed to be full. i had one about 14yrs ago that lasted for 8 years before the impeller went out. youre correct on the gravity effect. mine was a pain in the butt to get full and remain that way. the o-ring on the top will roll when you snap em' back together causing air to be sucked in and lower the level. not to mention spillage every filter change, i gave it away after the imp. went out.

since i went barebottom and stepped up my flow to 23.6X's turnover ratio, and have 1.78 lbs. of LR per gallon, all i do is clean the filter sock and my 25% WC every week i no longer use any type of mechanical filtration.

almost forgot, if you keep your Mg level at least 3X's the Ca level, you will find your parms will remain more stable also...
