How do you find tank dead spots?

How do YOU find where your tanks dead spots are? I don't like the idea of having my hand in the water with power heads running. I do have a CGFI, but I don't want to test it. ;-)

So what do you use to find em?

I look for where all the crap collects. Food, decay, etc. Should be obvious.

As for the hand in the water, get a ground probe with the GFI and you will be fine.(heated topic-beware) you cant go through the hobby scared to touch the water. (unless you have a puffer, agressive tang or trigger, maybe a shark tank?)

ditto, i have my hand in tank with eveything going. dont worry.

as far as how to find dead spots, +1 to what Stricknine said. also, when you clean your rocks (with a turkey baster/powerhead) watch how the particles flow. it'll let you see "dead spots", where the flow is high and low.

Haha you will have your hand several times a week maybe even more with a new setup, dont stress you will be ok with your hand in the tank. I run several Sieo's down the rear wall to keep Detritus moving this will get your tank to be free from Nitrates.
