Need QT advice for new Crocea clam
Just got our first clam, a pretty crocea. Planned on QT'ing it for a few weeks in the QT tank but LFS said that the QT tank wouldn't have enough light. But would 2 weeks in low light kill it? Am I better off just putting it in the main tank?
The QT tank is a 10 gallon regular fish tank, no special lighting. Reef tank is 180 gallons with VHO so I know it will need to go near the upper levels. If it goes into the reef tank should it start at the medium high level? I had planned on putting it on the bottom for a while to let it acclimate but now I'm worried about the amount of light there as well. Help! I need to get this guy settled somewhere very quickly! Thanks, Barking Shark |

Yes I think 2 weeks without proper light would be detrimental. I lost several clams when I went out of town for 7 days and I stupidly somehow turned of the timer for the MH. The clams still received 400+ watts of VHO, this was not enough to sustain them when they were use to 1200 watts a day.

I don't think there's any need to QT a clam. If you are paranoid, a quick freshwater dip should be all that's needed.
