possible ZOA eye injury, what to tell the doc.
So it was late sunday, and I was frustrated by my Zoa colony thats had about every problem available. My official lesson on not quaratining (I know I know... we all need at least 1) I got it in to my head to frag the heck out of it, and dip the parts, and put them back in my tank.
So, lugals dip ready, and a hammar and a hammar a chisel in hand, I smashed it to bits. Then dipped and shook everything. got a couple worms hopefully have picked out the last of the nudie eggs, and got yet another sundial snail I thought I had already gotten out of my system not to mention a dozen other critters I couldn't identify. The down side, even though I did wear saftey glasses, my eye was burning that night. annoying and red monday, and today, I can't really open it at all. I see the doc. tommorow morning. And I need to know what to tell him about what may have happened, and maybe even what to do about it. I've been flushing it. I am a Millwright by trade, and things lodged in various parts of my body are nothing new, but I don't see anything in my eye, and the timing lines up that I may have some of the zoa goo in there. All I know is that I'd really like my eye back and funtional.

chances are that you rubbed your eye at some point in time after dealing with the zoos. It does not sound like palytoxin so that's good (o look up palytoxin if you don't know what it is). It sounds more like a reaction to the crap in the water. you have to realize that the sea is filled with a LOT of bacterial and viral plankton... marine biologists now suspect that these planktons may contribute the majority of all the biomass in the ocean. Our tanks are no exceptions and probably house a lot more since they're closed systems. notable nasties include vibrio and mycobacterium (a cousin of good ol tuberculosis). take this seriously as some people have even had to have amputations of digits from these kinds of infections.

^ +1.
I am with Justin, although I do not know the symptoms for palytoxin poisoning. Sounds to me like an infection. There's a good chance he'll give you some antibiotic that will take care of the problem.

I had a zoa squirt me directly in the eye when I was fragging some of my colonies. I did'nt feel a thing but it was blood red for about a week and a half. It went away on its own.
