Help with Precision Marine Bullet 1
I recently acquired a Precision marine Bullet 1 Protein skimmer and am attempting to set it up IN SUMP.
Here is my dilemma: according to the "manual" it states: If you choose to place your skimmer inside the sump, you can use the two elbows included in your plumbing box. Simply thread into the skimmer drain and turn it to raise or lower the water level. Use the top elbow to direct the water flow. The water return line (from skimmer to sump) must not rise higher than the PVC elbow. If it does, it will impossible to maintain a low enough water level. Never reduce the size of this drain. BUT according to the FAQ on Precision Marine's web site: Yes, as long as the drain of the skimmer is not completely covered in water. The drain is centered 3” off the bottom. Exception to this rule is the Bullet-1 which can be in 6” of water. Most users will raise the skimmer up using one of the Precision Marine Stands. What I am "hung up" on is the following: #1 Instead of using the supplied elbows is it ok to just use a gate (not ball/globe) valve to adjust the water height in the skimmer's chamber? #2 does the "6 inches of water" refer to total depth of of water the skimmer can sit in? i.e. in a sump with an operating water line of 12" the skimmer must be placed on a 6" stand? |
