Water Change Questions

I've got a 75 gal tank with a MagGlow 2 sump which holds 6-8 gallons. I've been changing about 12 gallons of SW every couple of weeks. Is this about the right amount?

After mixing the saltwater, I put it all in 1 gallon containers for ease of getting the water into the sump. The sump is under the main tank and space is limited. Is there an easier way without the additional cost of an electric pump?
