Need advice on closed loop.

Ok not technicaly a closed loop, more a glorified canister filter. But I need the help of all you reef plumbing gurus. This is actually for a planted freshwater tank. I've asked around on the freshwater sites but no one could help. I hate equipment in my tanks and with a tank footprint of 36x12 a sump is out of the question. Here is what I would like to do.

Drill the tank bottom center of back. Run the drain into a Poseidon water pump. From the water pump go into a Lifegard inline filter, removing the Quiet One pump. After the filter I would inject the co2 and then go up to a return manifold.

Do you see any problems with this design? Could I run an overflow for the intake instead of just a drain hole for surface skimming? Which Poseidon pump would you recommend? And what size pipe should I use. I don't need a ton of flow just around 600gph. Thank you for your time, Randy.
