Aiptasia question, help
I bought a beautiful frag from a fellow reefer and noticed when I went to pick it up that this frag shared the same tank with numerous Aiptasias. I do not see any on the frag plug, but what should I do to make sure I don't introduce them into my system?

the only thing you can do is qt the frag for a few weeks to see if any aiptasias grown on it

It's very likely your frag has aptasia spores on it. Those things are so hard to get rid of. Believe it or not my peppermint shrimp have taken care of my aptasia problem. |

Well, I decided to take your advice and put it my new frag in my qt which I had set up. After about 1/2 hour I looked at the frag plug and noticed a nasty Aiptasia! So I used removed the coral from the plug and glued it to a new plug. Wow, I'm glad I saw that thing before it was too late!!! Thanks for the advise.

Just my .02, I had aiptasia and the stuff "Joe's Juice" really works well. I would have rather caught them in a QT, but if they ever pop up try this stuff. You have to kill them one by one, but you could kill a dozen in about a minute w/ this stuff.

honestly I have about 3 small aptasia in my tank. I burned one with a lighter after I took the rock out to put a frag on, but other than that I'm not going to worry unless they really start to take over... I mean God made them for reason.

All of the peppermint shrimp I have ordered from Florida have completely eradicated all of my aiptasia within 3-4 days. I have used them in 4 tanks now. Good luck

Had to shut off 90g tank, clean and disinfect it manually, same with LR (no longer live), because of aiptasia.
On this or another rock, it will come anyway, the problem is to find efficient tool to fight it. |
