electic consumption halide vs. t5 help.
Can someone direct me to any links that address the power usage between metal halides and t5's?
I was getting ready to order some t5's from an online dealer and he told me that t5's will not change my electric bill. Currently I am running 2 250 metal halides and 2 110 vhos on my 90 gal. Couldn't find a thread that compared the two but I'm sure it's out there. It didn't make sense that he would say that esecially when you consider I was about to make a purchase. Anyway, thanks for any help. |

Now, depending on how many and what size, it may not be much. My 4X24W didn't make much of a noticeable impact. Run 10 80W T5 bulbs, yes you will see a change in electric. You only really gain a lot of advantage of T5 over MH in shallower tanks. Once you get about 15" or so you tend to need more T5's over the tank to punch the light down more. Over 15" I am reasonably sure you wind up about the same, give or take. Both lights will cost you roughly similar amounts for similar-PAR output.
