Was just curious. I have heard they are one of the best and most dependable out there, so..... Before I get one or two, anyone ever heard of a Ebo-Jager heater sticking

No way will I risk frying my tank by using a heater without a controller. Ranco rocks!

$250 for a controller!? Hmm, That would buy a lot of fish! Now, if I had 2k in corals, I could see it. Sure, if money was no object, controller all the way!

Well, they don't cost $250 and my livestock is way more important. Your choice. Heaters will eventually fail in the control mechanism, it is a question of when.

Yeah, I have had even the best heaters fail.. Its not worth it.. You can get used controllers for $50 and new ones as low as $75-80 (Ebay)

It is not worth killing everything and starting over.. You will kick yourself later (And then end up buying one anway after the heater fails.)

If you dont do a controller at first, please use several smaller heaters instead of a large one.. that way when one fails, (AND IT WILL) it wont nuke the tank as fast...

Wrong way to look at it, bud. The animals we keep should not be considered expendable. It annoys me when people spend money on the animals and then cheap out on equipment to keep them alive! Yes, all heaters can stick.

If I spend $200 on a controller now, my inhabitants will be on the street. That would not do them so well. Hmm, you know of a store that I can get a controller now and pay them $50 a month so I can pay rent, eat and the fish can eat?

I was looking at the Ronco controllers a few minutes on egay and could probably get one for $50 shipped but then I really do not have a warrantee. If I get one from a store, there $75 + shipping. I will have to check out what the ACjr controller is along with other controllers and get an idea of whats out there.

Whoa, nobody wants your livestock out on the streets! Your heater probably isn't going to stick tomorrow, when you can, go buy a controller for piece of mind. Just try not to spend your money on animals when you need equipment, that's all.
