Ro do question

What would be the best way to use my waste water line coming from my unit? I was thinking of running it into my regular house water line but I don't know if I'll need a resivior or what. I just want to eliminate my huge waste water bill. My bill went from 15 last month to 50 this month. 30 of it was waste water that more than likely came from running my unit. It puts out a lot more water from the waste line as well. Is this normal?

How much water did you make last month, a thousand gallons? My RO/DI unit barely puts a dent in my water bill. Maybe you are putting out too much waste. What is your water pressure at the RO/DI, it should be around 40 PSI.

a normal ratio is between 1:3 and 1:4 good to bad. can you get a 55g drum or something that you can save up the water with and use in a garden or watering the lawn or something? use it for laundry water? those seem to be the most frequent uses for wastewater i've read about. there's a thread in the responsible reefkeeping forum about wastewater uses i think.

you should try putting a shut off valve on the waste line so you can control the water coming out.

I have a 75gpd Bulk Reef Supply unit. Im not exactly sure how to measure the psi of the waste. But there is a cylindrical adjustment on the unit its self. Should i think about getting a gauge to plumb into it?

As for just putting a valve on the waste line, wouldnt that just back it up?

Here is the unit i have exactly. Maybe i should consult BulkReefSupply?

I really appreciate all of the replies. Im still relatively new in some areas of the hobby and as you can tell this is one.

The higher the water pressure the less waste water is generated, so shoot for around 90 - 100 PSI. If you don't want to run you house water that high (and it can cause problems with hoses etc) then tap off your incoming water supply at the highest pressure your water company provides to feed your RO unit and then add a pressure reducing valve to cut your house pressure to around 60-70 PSI.
Also the nearer the temperature the water entering the RO unit is to 78 degrees the more efficient the unit is and the less waste water is generated.
I intend to add a 55 gallon barrel outside to capture the waste water for topping up my Koi pond as I too hate to waste a valuable resource.
