Yellow fiji Leather Lighting

Yellow Fiji Leather not opening since switching lighting from old PC's to new T5's. Only running lights 4-5 hrs a day while acclimating corals to new lighting. And advise.

I know that leathers do not particularly like a huge amount of light - could it be that it's just too much since you put in the T5's??

Or he could just be in the huff - mine closes for days at a time, sheds a bit of skin and then opens up bigger and better.

how long has he been closed?

About 4 days, ever since put new lighting on. With old PC's it would open fully, but took about 6 hrs to do so.

Try putting several sheets of window screen over the tank, put your lights back to their normal schedule, remove 1 sheet of screen per week. This is a good way to acclimate with new lights.

new lights

It can be a bit of a prob when new lights ,of a totaly different type, are added.

There may be a lot of changes because of this,in time mostly good changes.

I have found the t5s i use last a max of three months than start to loose there uv value, not much of there brightness though.

Put the date on them when you put them on with a felt pen or whatever.

I have mine on for 17 hours a day, works well!

Yellow fiji leathers are fairly shallow corals so it's not that it's too much lighting .. it's too much lighting too quick. Give it time to adjust. If it seems as if it is starting to decay then the lighting is the least of you problems. Just keep an eye on it, should be fine.

My leather will close for a week at a time for no apparent reason. Its been doing this for 2 years. I think with some Leathers this is pretty much normal behavior.

Most Leathers are indestructible, the Fiji is more delicate. I have had one for ~5 years under PC lighting. It will look great for months, then you swear it's dying--looking like h@ll for weeks. Then it's back to looking great. R

Fijis are one of the(if not THE) most light loving leathers. give it time. It will be fine if your perameters are in check.
