2nd dead fish but do not know why?

OK so my clown was dead this moring when I got up, and about a month ago Kole tang was also dead.

The tang had some kind of fungus on him so I QT'd him and with in 3 days he died, now the clown on the other hand looked great last night and then this morning I woke up he was on the bottom not breathing very well so I took him out in QT;d him as well and within hours he was dead.

I test my water about 2 times a week and last time I checked it everything was right on the money but my phosphates were at .5ppm (a bit on the high side) so not sure why my fish are dieing, my Lawnmower(the first fish I put in the tank) looks great and eats like a champ(but so did the tang) and his color looks great and has never looked sick or anything, my shrimps look great molt and eat and everything, the army of crabs I have all look fine aswell.

So I guess my question would be if it was something in the water wouldn't the shrimps get hit with whatever it is 1st(and I do not think it is ich)? This is my 1st salt/reef tank and I have had fresh water all my life and know what fresh water ich looks like and assume the saltwater ich looks the same.

Sorry about the long post but can any of you give some ideas on what I may be doing wrong or what I should I do before I add any more fish BTW all my corals look great too. Please any ideas as I am confused now.

Thank you

Your inverts are sometimes hardier than fish. Sometimes they can go through tougher times.

I would take your water to a reputable LFS and have them test it to compare it against yours. Your tests might be wrong..

That is a possibilty... Do you have a skimmer? what kind of filtration do you have? Is there lots of movement at the top of the water to let some oxygen in the water?

I have a coral life skimmer( i know a lot of you say it sucks but thats what I got for now) and due lack of space I have a canister filter that I mostly use to run carbon and for my top water movment, and also @ 70lbs of live rock.

I will be heading to my LFS tomorrow so maybe I should take them a cup of my water and se what they get.

Don't get down on yourself I have lost fish for no reason seems like they are doing good then all of a sudden I won't see them around feeding time then a day or 2 later I will see them stuck to the powerhead. Then you are wondering what the hell you did wrong. First thing I would really check is water parameters bring water sample to LFS. besides that everything you mentioned is fine your skimmer is fine better then not having one and some people keep successful reef tanks without skimmers

What do you think I should do before adding more fish, I was thinking do 10-15 gal water changes once a week for a month or so and start with a pair of clowns or somthing. still have no idea why they died??????????????????????

There is nobody here that can tell you why they died, sometimes it just happens. inverts don't get the same diseases that fish do so you won't be seeing ick or velvet on them. i would be doing 20% water changes biweekly from now on, everything seems happier after a water change. Don't give up
