New MSX250 questions

I just set up my new MSX250 last week but one of the pumps almost always starts up backwards. I have to plug and unplug until I get it going the right way. Not to much of a big deal when I'm here to deal with it but if the power goes on and off, like it does often around here, and I'm not home to deal with the pump, the skimmer won't be working for however long I'm gone. Is this a common problem? Anything I can do to fix it?

I'm not at all skimmer savvy so this next question will probably make everyone roll their eyes but what were the couple of extra parts for that my skimmer came with? The two bristle looking plug things and the mesh. The instructions were kind of lacking for newbies like me.

I would try posting your question in the MSX Skimmer Club thread, http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1534954 Someone here should be able to help you.
