How do you lower magnesium?

I added a mag supplement that increase Mag levels from 1600 to 1800ppm instantly, and some of the corals became pastel looking. It seems the Mag is to blame. How do I lower it?.

Im also using seachem advantage calcium which mantains Mag, does that mean Mag will be 1800ppm forever as long as I add this supplement?, or that amount is to high and it should be consumed and be lower with time?

Or what other method is there to lower the mag levels?

Time is the essence..I would stop adding anything till the levels get back to normal.

According to this article such a big bump would require a huge amount of supp. What type supp did you use?

If it really is that high and you want to lower it, water changes are the only way. A lower magnesium salt like IO would be the quickest way.

What salt mix are you using now?

I used seachemĀ“s magnesium and a friend supplement he made, if it so hard to get it that high then probably the test is wrong since its already hard to test magnesium, but there is a relation to more mag=less coloration in some corals, that was evident.

IĀ“m just gonna do a water change right now see if it helps, although I did a water change 2 weeks ago the nitrates are 2.5ppm right now so it would do some good anyways.

Do you know what the supplement your friend made was. This could be the problem for your corals.

Use the Elos Mg kit, much easier to read than Salifert
