Maybe his refugium with Deep Sand took 2 months to kick in, hence the drop. Or his Algae really took off, reducing the nitrates.
Simply adding more light won't drop Nitrates. If it were only that easy.

That depends. It could cause more nutrient export by increasing coral growth in turn making the corals support more zooxanthelae. It could also cause more Photosynthetic bacteria to grow, etc.
Why wouldn't increasing the light help reduce nutrients? |
