live rocks
hey guys! i have a question about live rocks. i recently purchased a live rock from lfs. 20 lbs estimated. after a few days of sitting in my tank i realized a few things growing from the live rocks. i dont have pics uploaded bc i dont have camera. it looks transparent and it looks like a fly trap plant. i dont really kno how to explain witout showing pics but i has like a spiky looking thing on the top that sumtimes open and closes. also i thought i was going crazy but my parent seems to think that it wus moving.....MOVING? wen we first saw it it was on one corner but looked like it moved about 3/4 to an inch. only concern about it is...is it safe or normal? ill try to see if i can borrow my sister camera this weekend and upload it so u guys can look at it. thanks!

How big is the tank? How new is the tank?
Peppermint shrimp are known to eat it but they are hit or miss so you may need to buy a few to get one that will munch on it. You can also buy a syringe at your local drug store and inject it with a kalk paste or lemon juice. |

Peppermint shrimp FTW, I love mine. I have tons of aiptasia in my sump but not one in my DT thanks to the shrimp. Only after your cycle is done though that is, shrimp are real picky with water quality.

You could try to take out the rocks and manually remove the aiptasia, rinse the rock really well and then replace. You could also try the injecting. Your tank is still cycling so shrimp are out for now.

kraze3 - do i just take it out and remove it wit my hands under cold or hot water if that matter? its fairly small so its kinda hard to use the injection method and i dont want it to grow any further if possible.

If you take the rock out, you can brush it off with a wire brush. You want to get it all the way off.
