yellow tang help plz!!!!

wussup i didnt really know where to post this but i bought a yellow tang (about 3 inches) yesterday and acclimated it for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. i took water from my main tank and filled up a 10 gal QT tank.
he look ok yesterday but i just got home like 20 mins ago and i seen it swimming aroung in circles. it was also breathing hard and fast. then i notices that one of his eye is bigger then the other and its getting cloudy. i have a whisper 30 hob filter running with a new filter pad (i didnt put the carbon in) and a maxi jet 400 in the tank. could someone tell me whats going on? im pretty sure its sick. could this have happen over 1 day or could it have been like that? i dont remember if it was already like that. i tryed to call the place but they are close. i havea feeling they are not gonna take it back and try to blame me for it. any help would be great thxs.

Did you cycle your QT tank? if you didn't, Test the amm. I bet it's starting to rise.

you need to do daily water changes to keep the amm in check. do you have any pieces of live rock in your main tank that you can put in there to help? i would think a couple of small pieces would help. keep testing the water daily too. good luck

Unfortunately water from your DT doesn't carry much of the bacteria that you need to sustain a bioload. What I would recommend is throw a couple pieces of live rock from your DT in there and your ammonia will go down. And in the future just take the filter media out of your HOB filter and toss it in your sump and when you need to QT a fish take that filter media out and put it in your HOB. By that time the filter will be teaming with beneficial bacteria and you wont have this problem again. Good luck hopefully your tang survives.

Oh and another thing if your tang comes down with ICH and you have to treat with copper remove the LR before you treat. Copper will kill your LR and it won't be able to be used in the DT again.

Just a FYI when using LR in QT... if your tang comes down with ICH, DO NOT take the LR from your QT and put it (back) in your DT.... (you can transfer the ICH on the rock..... thus negating the reason you are using a QT)..

I would purchase a ammonia "badge" to help monitor ammonia in uncycled QT. Keeping up on water changes will permit you use a uncycled QT you just have to watch water params and change when needed..

I tend to keep my QT up (as I am adding fish and each gets 4 weeks in QT prior to DT.

my 0.02
