nano tanks are very small tanks. I don't think 55 nano is the same as a 55. Check out this forum that is dedicated to nano's

In theory all of are tanks are nano, a very small portion of the oceans reefs. A 55 tank IMO is a 55 gal tank weather it is called a nano or not. Manufacturers have put the labe on "nanocubs", desk top aquariums, pico tanks, aquarium systems that range any where from 1 to 24 gallons and call them all nano tanks. It really depends on how you look at it. I have a 90 gal and don't consider it a nano, but in the big picture, compared to the ocean, it is.

nanos are most often used to describe those neat pre built tanks that have everything in them and dont exceed the size of a night stand.
they are neat but not for beginners...it seems that when you buy one it has all the best equipment...for all that money but i keep seing people tear the equipment out to upgrade it since its inadequate. if you want a small tank set a regular tank up...id save my money. i have a regualar 29g (thats nano size) but its not really a nano since its just a regular small tank lol i feel like im comfusing myself trying to clarify you.

After having my larger tanks for years, I decided to get a small Oceanic BioCube 14 for my office. This BioCube is harder to take care of then the larger tanks. Crap happens so fast in there. The temp rise faster, the salinity changes faster....everything.
But I love it....it looks awesome.
