150 Gal Saltwater help and info

I just purchased a Marineland 150 Gal Dual Corner-Flo tank.
What size Sump do I need for this tank? Places to buy and what to look for? I dont want to do the reef thing I want to have more fish than live rock. I have also had people tell me that you can build your own sump for alot cheaper.

I recommend at least a 40 gallon sump whether from a pre-made or homemade. If you want to save money then make a sump out of a 40 breeder tank-good size and easy to work with. make sure though you can fit it under your stand as that hits many on the head, hard. hope that helps Wiz

Let Me Officially

You To Reef Central

Well, as far as sump size the bigger the better I always say. I would get something that will fit under the tank stand and at least big enough to house all your equipment (skimmer, heaters, pumps etc. If you are going Fish only (and a lot for that matter) you are going to need a good bio-filtration. And that is usually done with live rock. Since you want a lot of fish which equals a big bioload I would suggest you go with a lot of LR to handle such a large community 1-1.5 lbs per gallon. A skimmer is almost a must as well... You’re going to want one that is rated for at least twice your water volume.
As far as lighting, You won’t need anything spectacular because of the fish only set up… for that it’s all preference of what you want and the color you like.. Good luck with your tank build

Thanks for all the info. Fish Wiz2 what all is needed to build this sump besides the tank. I know I can get cut glass from Lowes to go in it but like how do I set it up? Intake hoses, Bio ball box here etc etc
I have a great amount of space under the tank.So space is no problem. With the dual corner flo 4 holes 2 in each rear corner what type of tubing is needed to connect from tank to sump. I have every thing for the top pluming wise the bottom is where im a lil slim.

Here you go Salty,
If you're going to build a sump I would make it out of acrylic, but what was suggested as well is to get a glass tank and put baffles in it where you want. Either route you go check out this site. Marc makes everything out of acrylic but if you choose to go with a glass tank the concept is the same:
