Critters for the fuge?

Ok I know that when LR is introduced to a newly set up aquarium things start to grow and multiply. Is it the same for a refugium? If I introduce a macroalgae will pods start growing and multiplying or do I need to introduce a population of pods to start the cycle off? Also, any other helpful tips on starting a fuge would be very welcomed and appreciated!!!
Thanks everyone

Pods will reproduce in a steady environment. After your cycle is done you may wait about 3 months and then add some more pods. What I recommend is just getting 3-6 different chaeto from other members in your area and your critter load will be pretty diverse.

Sorry I need to update my "current tanks" info. I am up and running and past "cycles" in both aquariums. What I meant by "start the cycle off" was the cycle of pods breeding. Cheato is a good macro, anything else?

the pods are in the water column---the purpose of the fuge is to give them a safe haven to reproduce and increase their numbers before they are eaten.
You can feed them a couple of times a week with a cap full of phytoplankton like DT's
