Best skimmer for 30 gallon reef

I am getting ready to order my skimmer for my 30 gallon reef. I do not have a sump, so I need a hang on model. I am thinking about the aquac remora skimmer with a MJ 1200. Is this the best, or should I consider something else. Thanks

I'm about to set up a 40 gal breeder and have been looking at hang on skimmers too. I will surely be going with the aqua c and mj. I dont think you can do much better for a smaller tank without a sump.

Well, Euro-Reef now makes nano skimmers that are pretty sweet. There is always the Tunze nano (although I didn't like it).

You will get many opinions about skimmers but IMO the AquaC has done me justice. I have a HOB one one my 50gal Reef and it has worked out well for me. One suggetions I will make is to put a small piece of folded up paper towel over the water inlet at the elbow bend inside the skimmer (do not let the paper towel cover the skim cuo inlet hole). Makes a world of difference in regards to the bubble hissing noise these make.

For the price, Aqua C Remora is a fine skimmer, but there a few other (more expensive of course) skimmers out there that out-perform the Remora. Warner Marine H1 HOb - http://www.aquacave.com/warner-marin...mmer-2339.html And, the Deltec MCE300 - http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_viewIt...ct~DD1511.html

My Remora has been skimming for over 6 years now on my 30 cube, but the skimmate production has started to fall well short of what it did when newer. (After thorough cleaning and replacement mj1200) I'm thinking about going with the Warner skimmer.

I used an Aqua C Remora Pro, it did a great job but my wife HATED the noise. I switched to a Tunze 9002, MUCH quieter, although it does not skim quite as well as the Remora. I would go to the Tunze DOC 9005 if noise is an issue for you.

+1 on those. Although I'll admit I never used either of them, I hated my remora..it was loud, let stray micro bubbles in the tank unless I used a sponge I had to clean every other day and the powerhead was an ugly intrusion in a small tank and b*tch to remove to clean (for me anyway) and after a while kept slipping off the feed tube.

I gave a +1 because both of those models have a clear tube in the tank and keep the pump in the chamber.

Thanks for all the responses. I have looked at everything listed, accept for the euro-reef nano skimmers. I couldn't find them. Could someone post a link to them for me. Thanks

I use a Remora Pro with a Mag 5 on my office 20 hex. It produces excellent, consistent skimmate, but yeah is far from quiet. I have mine on a timer -- it's on during the 14 hours I'm not at the office. It's way more than adequate for my 20 with a single GSM Clown.
