When I mixed my Reef Crystals salt I was advised to do about 1 cup per gallon of water to get 1.025 sg. It was really close, if not dead on.

Are you sure? This is about twice the recommended amount of salt. RC, and other salt instructions say 1/2 cup per gallon.

My bad guys. I'm sorry. I added a half cup per gallon. I've mixed salt and it was a bigger batch that's being stored in a container. I added about 15c to my 29g tank. Take into count the displaced water from my sand, tiny bits from my hob skimmer and heater and ph. I added the rock after my sg was up to par(of course.)

Is it important that you get to exactly 1.023? Some leeway usually is no big deal. What you seem to be asking would would be tough to give an exact answer to; too many variables. Try 1/2 cup minus 2 tablespoons of salt per gallon; measure SG, and add a little as needed until you get your reading......that's the best I can do.

Remember that every brand and batch of salt is a little different from each other(or so I've read). Even if you still use the same amount each time and it keeps checking out, be sure to continue checking each time to be sure. I thought this was good advice when I read it...can't remember where. I think on here from Randy.
