purple tang and ich...i think
ok I was battling a bubble algae and aptasia problem I got tired of the weekly cleaning and killing, so I decided to remove the majority of my live rock soaked it in a 25/75 mix of vinegar and water (after removing all corals and snails etc. from said live rock)
I soaked the rock for around 4 hours. after that I started soaking in plain old water and scrubbing the poop outa the rock. after hours of scrubbing I rinsed for at least another hour with the good ol'' garden hose and spray nozzle. it took my clam a few days to fully open but other than that everything was looking good, until I noticed some whit spots on my purple tang I believe to be ich, or I could be wrong. tell me what to do if anything, I have an extra 30 gallon and a 20 gallon I could set up as a separate system to treat with anything copper, hypo, etc... please I ask for guidance here’s a pic....... ![]()

Tangs are sensative. You probably stressed it out by moving the rock around thats why it has ick, Just make sure you feedit good. Try to soak the food with some garlic and keep an algae clip full at all time it should and it should make it. Good luck

I woula actually just leave him alone. Moving rocks around your tank can stress your fish out, so taking out all your rock and treating it multiple times then returning it to the tank can put a fish into shock, which can make them suseptable to disease. If he is still eating and swimming, make sure to watch his behavior and feed him well. I wouldn't try to set up and cycle a new tank just to treat him, moving him to a new tank could kill him.

Use Garlic Extreme by Kent just put a drop on the flake food and soak it in the SW for a little while then dump it in. I have had past experience with it and worked great, and not all that expensive. I feed my fish all the time with Garlic supplement now.

I figured I just stressed him, I was just at my friends, And I was telling him that I have a bunch of garlic here at home and I was going to try soaking some sea veggie's in the juices, sorry for my spelling of "ick"... and thanks for the confidence inspiring replies

Honestly, ich doesn't go away on its own. Your fish may recover without any intervention other than food, but the parasite will always be in your system. In other words, your tang may become immune, but any new addition or other fish in the tank may not be so lucky. Also keep in mind that with each life cycle of the ich it may get stronger. IMO the only way to battle it is to remove all fish to QT and let your tank go fallow for at minimum 6 weeks. There are some really good stickies you may want to read. HTH
