Harlequin's 75G Build List= I need your input!
ere are my building plans for the 75G BB LPS/SPS reef. I want an open looking reef with lots of room for maturing and flow.
As suggestions are considered, I will revise the list to keep things clear for those not following the thread. Electrical will be ran by two 20A circuits. While I may not need that much juice, I would like to have the return pump and CLS pump on opposite circuits in case one pops, that way the tank maintains water circulation and the fish don't suffocate. GFCI of course! I plan for a tall canopy/stand. This should give me options for light height, but also add air volume and will have room to mount fans and reduce heat issues. Feel free to critique, ask questions, babble, poke and tease. I'm all ears and will provide reasoning for any selections I have chosen. This is a fuzzy idea as of now and am welcoming any advice to improve the list. Thanks! TANK -75G -50lbs marco rock key largo style, 25lbs shelf rock, drilled w-1/2”acrylic rod -(2) 24X18 white starboard (siliconed on edges to bottom of tank) -38” Coast to coast overflow (black acrylic) -3 pipe durso- 1” holes, 1” bulkheads with 1.5” pvc -All electrical will be run off of two 20A circuits SUMP&FILTRATION (Enclosed in tall DIY stand) -40G breeder (NEED IDEAS FOR USING 40BREEDER V.S. 30BREEDER) -Octopus Extreme 200 with upgraded ATB purple pinwheel for sicce pump -BB frag growout area in middle lighted by 150W 10k MH ran opposite of display -Small fan for evaporative cooling -no plans for refugium at this point. FLOW -Closed loop (reeflo dart)with spray bar (top two returns drilled on either side of overflow) -2, 3 or 4 holes for bottom of tank (spraybar) depending on rockwork -NEED IDEAS FOR PUMPS on CLS/Return AND OVERALL FLOW DESIGN possible SWCD's, Ocean Motion 4/6 etc., LIGHTING (Enclosed in DIY canopy) -2X175W SE MH -(2) Lumenarc III mini SE pendant -2X54W T5 actinics -NEED ADVICE ON COOLING -ANY ADVICE WELCOME as far as wattages, SE/DE reflectors etc., Last edited by harlequin75BB; 05/14/2009 at 12:58 AM. |

I have a 40 breeder for a sump. I love all the extra room, plus more water.

That's a well thought out plan, imo.
My only changes would be vortechs instead of closed loop & use 250's instead of 175's. |

thanks for the comments!
I would love to do 2Xvortech and that would make things less cluttered (plumbingwise). But with this writeup as it is im a bit over my head fundage. Should be wet this time next year so i'll finalize it and begin a build thread once I get a few of the items and begin DIY'ing. |

another thing, i'm trying to keep heat down. I've read the 'useable' power of the lumenarcIII mini reflectors is insane (compared to a 175W setup with spiders/PFO) 150 seems a bit minimal to me but icecap ballasts and 175 seem about right. I can always add a few t5's down the road. =]
Does that sound about right? |
