flukes and cupramine and fallow, oh my
I've got some questions about a fluke case I'm dealing with right now.
My DT has flukes, or at least what I believe are flukes. symptoms include twitching, scratching, white spots on fins and now one of my dwarf angels has a white spot on it's eye. I gave the fish some time to take care of it with their own immune systems, good water quality and diet but one of my fish kept getting worse so I decided to treat with a dose of prazipro. 5 days after dosing once the problem seemed to be gone so I skimmed out the prazi. The day after the meds were skimmed out I noticed the same symptoms in different fish. Again I gave them a few days to deal with it but it just spread so I dosed with prazipro again. Tonight will be the third dose, I am dosing every 3 days but to no avail. Since the praziquantel doesn't seem to be working I was going to step things up a notch and treat the fish with cupramine in a hospital setup. I've dealt with ich successfully before and don't believe that it is what I'm dealing with right now though I'm open to suggestion. My first question is regarding my snowflake eel. It's my understanding that eels don't really get sick or infected unless things are REALLY bad. Should I treat the eel or should I let him be in the DT? He shows no symptoms however that doesn't mean that he wouldn't be a carrier or something, does it? Also, is cupramine safe to use with eels? My eel doesn't seem to like praziquantel, it curbs his apetite a little bit. Next up is about fallow duration. Is there any kind of rule of thumb for flukes like there is with ich? If I assume that what I'm dealing with IS ich and not flukes and I fallow for 28 or 30 days would that take care of any fluke eggs or whatever? Any help would be awesome =] |
