DIY Tank Question

1) I am building my 3rd acrylic tank and the dimensions I am going for is 96"L x 24"H x 12"W and using 1/2" acrylic. What is everyones opinion in 1/2" acrylic on this size tank? I am going to use a full piece on top with cutouts.

2) As far as a DIY rockwall how do you attach the eggcrate to the back of the tank? How do you eliminate dead spots behind rock wall?

I've done multiple foam backgrounds on my tanks and I always used aquarium silicone to attach my eggcrate anchors. With arcylic you might be able to use weldon or some other acrylic bonding product.
