Keeping pulsing Xenia
I recently changed from a 35 to a 60 gal tank and transferred all my livestock seemingly without a hitch. After about 2 months my Xenia has closed up and has been dying nearly daily. This was after it was multiplying at an incredible rate. I don't see anything that could have caused this all the other coral are doing fine-mushrooms, ricordia, acropora among others. Any ideas?

They seem to strive in dirtier water. What were your nitrates in the 35 and what are they now in the 60?

My tank stays above 80 and the Xenia are doing fine. Xenia seem to be "strange" in that they will thrive in one tank and just melt away in others. I too have heard that they prefer dirtier water, but my nitrates are 0 and they are growing nicely. Was there a drastic change in flow or light?

My tank is also above 80 and my xenia is doing great. In my experience whenever something in my tank is changing the xenia always starts to go first and has thus far been a good indication that something is going wrong. Not saying that anything is wrong in your tank but that they are very sensitive to changes and may indicate a problem before anything else is showing signs of the change.

Nitrates in the 60 are 10 I don't know what they were in the 35. The temp is between 78 and 81. Alk is 7 and CA is 420. Only change is that the light is about 4" higher off the tank, but before the light was burning some of the other corals and washing out the color in the Ricordias and polyps they look better now.

Alkalinity was a source of problems for Xenia when I kept it. It began to take over the tank, so I got rid of it.
There is something else going on your missing or overlooking.....picture?
