ORA has just released a new clownfish...the ORA Platinum Picasso. Very pricey.

my personal favorite is the grade a picasso. unique, but not retarded looking.

the older one is kind of sick looking. if they have all black fins i think they would be cool. but for 750 a fish idk. i thought they were going to be 750 a pair and i would've got them.

c'mon guys, are they really that bad? i think they look kind of cool. i'm not willing to drop $1500 for a pair, but if the price was right i wouldn't mind owning a set.

Unique / different -- yes. Worth $750 / fish -- IMO no.
Those won't be going on my list of "must haves" anytime soon, that's for sure. I don't find them to be all that desirable.

I think the original designer did a better job than on all of ORA's pricey mutations.

I thought the highlight of saltwater was that the fish are colorful. If one is looking for that rare fish that no one has, I can think of a lot better choices.
Its kinda funny that ORA is now producing fish not found in the ocean since their mission statement has been to conserve the natural reefs. I knew they were going the wrong direction when they introduced the indigo dottyback. It seems that they've hit a road block when it comes to breeding natural specimens.

They are preserving the natural reef, by not harvesting it for new fish. They breed there own.

With fish that don't exist on the reef... Then hike the price so high that people can't afford it... so they buy wild anyways. I just don't understand it. I realize its a business and they need to make money. I just wish they would look at the industry, see what's collected the most and work on those. It might not be as exciting, but it would certainly help the reefs.

well, conserving a reef means that they are not harvesting fish, corals, and invertebrates. ora gets their hands on a handful of animals and breeds/propagates them.

and these fish are all mutations. the picasso, snowflake, **name removed because of legal threat from trademark holder**, naked, etc all came from more natural looking parents. they just so happen to have recessive traits that are pronounced in a handful of babies from a clutch of 400-500+ eggs.

i think that it's pretty neat that the fish are capable of the colors they are getting. in nature, very few fish offspring survive, so the occurrence of running into a picasso or snowflake in the wild are next to none...but the traits are still there, just recessive.

I'm not saying I would pay that kind of money or anything. But this type of thing is nothing new. It wouldn't be a mutt if it were a dog. Most of todays dogs have been selective bread over hundreds of years for the qualitys people like. Then they are pure bread. The same goes for many cats. And tha fact is that these fish were born, not cooked up in a lab or something. So just because they look different they shouldn't try to sell them? They will probably have a better life than many other clownfish. Because I'm sure if somebody shelld out $1500 for a pair they are going to keep extra good care of them.

From what I have seen locally, I really like the grade B (B+) picasso's this one store gets. Extremely beautiful fish. If I were to buy any, it would be the one I have (extreme misbar false perc) or grade B picasso's. Even though I can afford a grade A or even "Platinum" fish.
