Looks a LOT like the snot that comes from vermitid worms.

If you can find them, either blast them with boiling water or use an ice pik to bust their shells. They aren't all that hard to kill but are a bit tricky. Bust up as much of the shell as you can.

They aren't dangerous to anything so far as I have ever found, but they only get worse and spread about as quickly as aiptasia.

yet now that I look at it, it also resembles bacterial blooms. Have you dosed anything in the tank that might contain any form of carbon or carbohydrate (like vinegar, sugar, vodka, etc...)? I've seen them cause bacterial blooms that look like that, just skim wet 24/7 and it should go away in a day or two if this is the case.

no you can run your carbon reactor and GFO reactor. the previous poster was wondering if you were dosing anything that was a carbon source - i.e. sugar, vodka, vinegar, vitamin C, etc... because it resembles a bacteria bloom.

have you see a vermitid snail worm in the tank?

I had a similar problem. Went away on its own. My wife actually called me at work and said my aquarium had cobwebs! Freaked me out.

Thats what my wife would say also! I have very small ones in my tank not near the extreme you have there though. Mine just go away after a while!

I am not dosing at all. Just running a calcium reactor.

Technically that is dosing. But get this. I just sat down to watch my tank and one of those long small snails was making a trail of this stuff. No kidding. Soon after it starting to spit into the water column and started making "cobwebs" again. I had never observed this before and thought I would share it. It took almost 45 minutes to complete a small "web." Then the snail disappeared. A little after that my neon goby landed on it and a part of it was released into the water just to get sucked into the filter. Not saying that is what you have for sure but it is for sure what caused mine!

I think they are vermitid worms. I have hundreds of small "C" shaped tube worms. I have no way of killing this many. Any suggestions?

Now I do not think they are vermitid worms. The slim string does not appear to be attached to anything other than the rock. The white specs in the picture are the "C" shaped worms I was referring to. I have had them in other tanks without the slim strings. I shiponed out a good bit of the slime strings last night and will try to post more pics when I get home from work.

Definitely not vermited snails. Maybe it could be from sea spiders and/or serpent stars that live in your rocks? I've seen web like stringy stuff like that on my rocks when I move them around.Like when i was rearranging my rockwork and had placed some rocks to one side of my tank,i noticed when i picked them up they would be covered in this web like stringy stuff so i would just stick the rock in front of my powerhead and it would blow off or i'd siphon it. But i would never be able to siphon it all so i'd just leave it and eventually they all went away. Don't know if they got blow off or whatever but they were gone. I have really only noticed this web like stuff when there is constant movement with the rocks. I have a lot of sea spiders/serpent stars that came in my live rock when i got it,and that was the only thing I could think of that would cause that stuff...unless it's the bristle worms that also live in the rocks but i doubt that and I know for sure it's not coming from a snail or anything outside of my rocks so I assumed it was probably coming from the sea spiders/sea serpents that live in my rocks. I don't know but that was just my theory to my web stuff.
