Hair algea on frag plugs

Would a iodine dip kill the hair algea off of the frag plugs?

Not really sure, but becareful with iodine, if you overdose, and its easy it can be fatal to a DT. I wouldn't dose anything I coudn't test for.

I'm talking about a dip in TMPCC of the plug... not the whole tank

Not the best way to get rid of algea on the plugs. Maybe try adding some crabs to the tank. They clean off my plugs all the time. Or a conch.

If the tank is otherwise algae free, your clean up crew will probably appreciate the snack. Still, I usually hit frag plugs with a toothbrush if there's any hair algae or valonia on them.

I use an electric toothbrush to clean off frag plugs before placing them in my tanks. Specifically, I use the Crest Spinbrush Pro; it's powerful, durable, water-proof, and relatively cheap at a price of less than $10.

Using the electric vs. a manual brush allows me to concentrate more on WHERE I'm scrubbing (i.e. avoiding the coral tissue and any subsequent damage) rather than how hard or fast I'm scrubbing in order to completely remove the algae, like I would be with a manual toothbrush.

Call me old fashion... I just pop any incoming frags off of the plug, then dip and mount them in the tank. A frag plug is just another place to carry in unwanted pests IMO.
