Lighting Selection questions
I’m new to all this and would like assistance in critiquing the following lighting/canopy equipment selection.
My reef tank is 4 foot square and 34” water depth (see attached photo) which is about 300 gallons. The following equipment has been suggested: (2) Coralvue Mogal Base Halide http://www.fishtanksdirect.com/inde...ROD&ProdID=2507 (2) 36" Nova Extreme T5 4x39w http://www.fishtanksdirect.com/inde...ROD&ProdID=1262 (4) cooling fans - http://www.fishtanksdirect.com/inde...ROD&ProdID=2025 What is everyone’s opinion as to the reliability of the equipment suggested and will this be adequate light for a reef tank of this depth? |

I would want 400 watt halides at that depth of tank. And with a canopy thats going to be a lot of heat. Is the canopy open top?
You should probably figure in the cost of a chiller. How high off the water will the halides be? I'm not sure two of those reflectors will be enough coverage. You should look at a reflector like this. http://saltycritter.com/lighting/sun...alaxy-kits.htm Or coralvue lumenbrite reflectors. They need to be about 9" or more off water. Going all T5 is another option. But again at 34" depth I am not sure you will get the penetration you may need if you plan on keeping SPS and clams.
