They are pretty sneaky little devils. It probably came in the rock. I would either build a bottle trap (cut the top an flip it so it is a funnel into the bottle), use a commercial trap or pull the rock and remove it with a FW dip or seltzer water.

Current Tank Info: broken and dry

Alot of times they are no problems....will take snails and crabs as they grow.

I had about 8 in my tank, slowly took them out, in hindsight they were not causing any problems, but they were smaller ones.

When you pull it out, just don't kill it. Give it to a store or someone. I watch for it to go in a rock then pull that rock out put it in a something with salt water from the tank and get a straw and blow in the holes till he pops out. Worked on all of mine.

Amazing creatures.

have you lost any livestock? If not, just try serenes method of watching for which rock he makes his den in and take him out that way. most mantis stay rather small so he may not be a threat to larger fish. Especially if he can scavenge some missed brine and other food.

We had one that we couldn't catch for about nine months. He got almost two inches long. After he was gone and we added some sand sifters, I found DOZENS of snail shells busted open. He of course couldn't crack the larger ones, but the smaller more common ones all had the ends cracked open.

They're not stupid...much more intelligent than you can even imagine. Seltzer water is toxic to them....they are invertebrates and more sensitive than fish to changes. The blowing salt water through the holes sounds like a good plan...just wear gloves. What color is he/she? A hermit crab is good bait...the ones with thinner shells and also snails...margaritas. Good luck...you lucky reefer!!!
